New Home Communities Booming on San Antonio's Southside
San Antonio's Southside has become a focal point for the city's expansion, with several major projects and investments announced recently. These include a new $70mm Tech Port Center and Arena, which will serve as a world-class tech hub and entertainment venue, the first of its kind in San Antonio.
The Southside has seen several economic developments:
- Port San Antonio is planning to construct a new state-of-the-art office tower and a cyber-focused facility.
- Toyota has invested $391 million in its San Antonio plant and, along with Aisin AW, is committed to a combined $791M investment in Texas Manufacturing.
- Over 1,000 local jobs have been created with the establishment of a new TJMaxx distribution center.
- DeLorean plans a comeback with a new electric vehicle production enterprise.
- The transformation of a former Texas Air Force Base has boosted the local economy.
- Palo Alto College plans to open a new facility on the South Side.
- The Southside continues to grow with the welcoming of a new University Health facility.
The demand for housing in the area has led to a surge in new home construction. Homebuilders have responded by offering new communities with modern designs, spacious floor plans, and a range of amenities. The Southwest and Southside of San Antonio reported 4,043 annual starts, representing 17.9% of the total market share of new home growth in the city.
Several new home communities are being developed in the Southwest, South, and Southeast corridor of San Antonio:

- Mesa Vista, Los Altos, Hacienda, Vida – 50’s, Marbella, Mission Del Lago, The Granary – Heritage Collection, The Granary – Classic Collection, Vida, Sage Valley, Trails at Westpointe, Ladera – Barrington & Waterford, Cinco Lakes 35’s, Cinco Lakes 40’s in San Antonio.
- Spanish Trails Villas, Blue Ridge Ranch, Covington, Sutton Farms in South East SA.
- Medina Crossing in Von Ormy.
- Some communities like Spanish Trails Villas, Jordan’s Ranch, and Vida Townhomes are marked as "coming soon".
